Entity
A specific thing a machine can tell apart from other things with similar names. Your business is one, or it is not.

What it means
An entity is a resolved identity rather than a string of characters. Two contractors called Summit Heating in neighbouring counties are one string and two entities, and everything downstream depends on a system being able to separate them.
Why it matters for an HVAC company
Trade names repeat constantly. If a machine cannot tell your company from a similarly named one three towns over, your reviews, your listings and your mentions are being split between two identities, and neither looks strong.
What would settle it
Search your exact company name plus your town. Does a knowledge panel appear? Do the listings that come back all refer to you? Then search the name without the town and see how many other businesses share it.
A worked example
A contractor searches their own name and finds 4 businesses sharing it across 2 states. Their Google profile says “Ste 4”, their website says “Suite 4” and three directories say “#4”. A machine reconciling those has to guess. Standardising the format across all 5 records took an afternoon and cost nothing.
